We then make the journey to our hotel the 4* Mercure Bowden Hall where we stay for three nights. (Pictured opposite)
Our Blue Badge guide meets us at our hotel and accompanies us throughout the day. We make our way to Gloucester where we will have a guided tour of the magnificent cathedral famed for its dramatic yet elegant architecture and soaring stained glass windows before having free time in Gloucester for lunch. After lunch, we travel to Tewkesbury which has one of England’s best medieval townscapes with over 300 listed buildings. Our Blue Badge Guide will provide us with a walking tour pointing out many points of interest. We will then have free time to explore Tewkesbury at our leisure before returning to our hotel.
This morning we depart with our Blue Badge Guide for Worcester where we will see the magnificent sight of Worcester cathedral. Upon arrival, we will have a guided tour of the highlights of the cathedral. We will then have a short walking tour of the city with our Blue Badge Guide before free time for lunch. After lunch, we visit the Museum of Royal Worcester which holds the world’s largest collection of Worcester porcelain. This fascinating ceramics museum has recently benefitted from a multimillion-pound restoration. Upon arrival, we will have a private ‘behind the scenes’ lecture after which our Blue Badge Guide will take us on a short tour of the museum. Following tea/coffee and biscuits there will be free time to explore the museum at your leisure and perhaps visit the gift shop before we return to our hotel.
After checking out of our hotel, we visit the architectural wonder which is the church of St Mary and St David at Kilpeck. If any church deserves the word extraordinary, it is Kilpeck. The church was built around 1140 AD and has been little changed since. It is a remarkable example of the stonemason’s art with a riot of extraordinary carvings where Pagan imagery vies with Christian iconography. We then travel the short distance to the delightful cathedral city of Hereford. Here we will visit the cathedral and enjoy a cathedral highlights tour as well as visiting the famous Mappa Mundi and Chained Library exhibition. After free time for lunch, we return to Hereford cathedral for a guided tour of their RHS award winning gardens. We then depart for our return journey back to our original pick up point.
